Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why should I join Webstore for Education when I can get 20MB web space free elsewhere on the Internet?

A. Webstore for Education enables everyone involved within or supporting schools to store and/or share computer files of all sorts (from simple text to multimedia web pages) that they have created in a really flexible and easy to manage way. No other product is as focussed or achieves this as comprehensively as Webstore for Education. For more details see Introduction.

Q. Did I hear somewhere that you can store your own files on Webstore for anytime anywhere access?

A. Yes, any Webstore user can have their own 'Private Folder' where they can store files wherever they have Internet access. No more floppy discs needing to be carted around. Plus the private folders are easy to create and manage. And where else are teachers and pupils going to store files for anywhere anytime access with their small portable computers in the near future?

Q. We already have a school network where we share files. Why should we use Webstore for Education?

A. Webstore for Education allows sharing of information and files to anyone on the Internet, including parents, pupils and governors as well as the general public. Even having a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection for users at home does not mean they can contribute and share both files and web pages in the way that Webstore allows. See Introduction.

Q. Hang on - does that mean anyone can see what we put on Webstore?

A. No; not unless you want them to. You choose what is public and what remains private. You can even hide whole folders so that no-one knows they are there. See First Time Users and Browse (Logged on).

Q. It sounds like a lot of work

A. Webstore is designed for everybody to be users, sharing the workload of putting content on the web. To make this work in practice Webstore has different types of users and automatic management tools such as the time-to-live and the publishing function. See Introduction.
